Curriculum Vitae for Alexander Sibbald
Alex is a senior lecturer in the Department of Management, University of Otago, Dunedin New Zealand. He teaches personnel management and small business management on the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. He has also taught in universities in Scotland and Fiji, and been a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Ulster, Napier University (Scotland), and the East-West Center at the University of Hawaii. Previous work experience included managerial positions in the steel and refractories industries, operating a small retail business, and as a board member of a training industry organisation, and a semi professional football club.
On a part-time basis he is also a mentor for the business in the community programme, in which he has assisted a number of small businesses in trouble. His involvement in credit union research, arose out of his position as a director and trustee of one of the largest credit unions in New Zealand, in which, as a practitioner, he is heavily involved.
With colleagues from the University of Otago, he is currently further researching economies of scale in, and accountabilities of, credit unions, as a consequence of the introduction of a trust deed. Also underway is an examination of the strategic development of technology in the Irish credit union movement.
Alex`s interest in compensation strategies, has also led to the development of a series of case studies for teaching and research purposes.
